Congratulations to University of California San Francisco Medical Center leaders. The American Institute of Architects California Council has honored UCSF Medical Center & UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital with a Client Achievement Honor Award.
William McDonough + Partners and Anshen + Allen collaborated on the design of the new UCSF Medical Center complex at Mission Bay, located on a 14.5 acre parcel just south of the 43-acre life sciences complex. We are so proud to have had a chance to work with UCSF on the design of these facilities, which are now under construction under the supervision of our architecture partners, Stantec, and DPR Construction.
We are fortunate in our practice to work with visionary clients, and UCSF is unquestionably one of these. Their leadership is inspiring. UCSF takes seriously its position as an institutional leader in the region. When contemplating the opportunity to create a significant new facility, leaders at UCSF realized that they had an opportunity to integrate the relationship between affecting beneficial outcomes to human health and a broad agenda of environmental sustainability issues in a meaningful way. Their commitment to doing that at the highest level has resulted in a project that will offer long-term learning opportunities for the AEC community, the medical community, and all the staff and patients who spend time there for decades to come.
The Mission Bay facilities—UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital at Mission Bay; the 70-bed UCSF Cancer Hospital at Mission Bay; the UCSF Women’s Specialty Hospital at Mission Bay; and the Outpatient Building—will be a living model of sustainability as a commitment to total health.
