July 21, 2014 /3BL Media / – Sustainability thought leader William McDonough will make the business case for the circular economy as the opening keynote speaker for NAEM’s 22nd annual EHS Management Forum on Oct. 22-24 in Austin.

A renowned pioneer in sustainable design, Mr. McDonough has incorporated the cradle to cradle concept into his architecture and consulting work for clients such as General Electric, Alcoa, The Coca-Cola Co., Dow Chemical Co. and The City of Chicago.

Forum Planning Chairman Allen Stegman, General Director of Environmental and Hazardous Materials for BNSF Railway Co., said Mr. McDonough’s perspective is particularly relevant to the emerging challenges that NAEM members are facing today.

“At a time when environment, health, safety and sustainability (EHS&S) leaders are increasingly able—and expected– to generate business value for their companies, Bill’s vision and concepts offer a roadmap for how companies can move from a focus on negative impacts to generating positive value,” he said.

During his presentation before more than 500 corporate EHS&S leaders, Mr. McDonough will make the business case that it’s time for companies to move from a “take and make” model to a “circular economy”, in which the products and services they create positive value for the world. He will also identify case studies and specific steps that corporate leaders can take to incorporate these concepts into their own operations.
