On June 7-8, William McDonough attended the Global Fashion Summit in Copenhagen with the theme, Alliances for a New Era. McDonough took part in the panel discussion titled “Global Alliances and Circularity: How Close Are We?,” which focused on circularity as a collaborative journey, as well as aligning on targets to achieve fashion’s circular economy. The essential question to consider on the panel was “How close are we to a circular economy?”
Other panel members included: Halide Alagöz, Chief Product and Sustainability Officer of Ralph Lauren; Robert Van Der Kerkhof, Chief Commercial Officer of Lenzing; and Mustafain Munir, Director of CYCLO Recycled Fibers. The panel was moderated by Dana Thomas, Author and UK Vogue’s European Sustainability Editor.
Ralph Lauren also announced its Live On promise as part of their new circular strategy on June 8 at the Copenhagen Fashion Summit, including its ‘Timeless by Design’ approach. Additionally, Ralph Lauren unveiled their new Cradle to Cradle Certified® cashmere sweater, the first of its kind in luxury fashion to be certified. It will be available later this year.
McDonough Innovation has been advising Ralph Lauren since March 2021 on its comprehensive circularity strategy and its journey to Cradle to Cradle Certified® products.
